WHY YOU SHOULD OWN A BOAT and this isn't a sales pitch :)
Growing up on the back bay of Biloxi, MS I was a tom boy - little girl who loved to tag along with my older brother and his friends to go fishing and throw the cast net. Anytime I seen one of those big shrimp boats go out, I wondered how many adventures await them out on the open seas. As I grew older I began to take boat trips, first on the Big!! Ship Island Ferry for a fun filled day out on Ship Island then to boat trips with my aunt, early in the morning to fish. I myself just could not imagine if I did not grow up around water or boating, what would life had been like? Probably, a lot more boring, that I am sure of. Now looking back managing a boat dealership, I am so lucky to have a job where I am not selling boring stuff, clothes, food but FUN-meeting people and helping them pick out a boat to enhance their or their families life. No One has to have a boat (well, loosely speaking) but really- learning the in and outs of the Marine business is such daily fun.
Through life I have learned that boating is actually an excellent investment in your health. The more time you spend on the water the more relaxed and tranquil you become, strengthening your mind and body. In fact, boating is one of the few known activities that has been proven to extend your natural life-span.
Boating helps to draw a family closer together. I learned this with my trips out with my aunt and mom fishing and then headed back all sun burned, tired but ready to eat, so, next was cleaning the fish we caught to eventually fry them up. The necessity of working together as a team was always a great experience to all of us and memories are always a added bonus.
Boating has always been an adventure: from the first mariners that set sail to discover new worlds to the commercial fishermen and merchant seamen even today who go down to the sea in ships. The seamen who opened world trade routes around the Horn, the captains and crew who fought the world’s great sea battles, and the birch bark canoe men were adventurers all. Whenever or wherever you take to the water in your boat, from a dinghy to a yacht, you are joining the ranks of marine adventurers of all time. There is always an unknown ahead of you — an adventure awaits.
If you don’t own a boat just yet, you still might not get it. But trust me, one day you will. You do not have to be an experienced boater or the best angler, but being a dad who takes his kids out and shows them the open waters you will be the hero of the day!! Spend some family time or if you just like solitude being out on the water watching the sun set or rise while dolphins swim about, is just pure bliss!! There are so many reasons why OWNING A BOAT is the treasure you will find out at sea, you may not be the Pirate that finds gold but there is always that adventure that makes YOU the boater, the reason to OWN A BOAT in itself.
